Crane-fly Orchid (Tipularia discolor) with dried stalks remaining from Aug/Sep flowering. Flowers resemble a crippled crane-fly. Leaves emerge in late fall but disappear before summer, making the flowering plant easily overlooked.) leaves. The Crane-fly is one of many species of orchids found in the Ouachita Mountains.
